Retort Furnaces

Atmosphere Retort Furnaces

The finely crafted sections of rocket engines are brazed into a single assembly during a series of protective atmosphere heat treatment steps in a CEC Retort furnace. This is one of many detailed and difficult machine components that are made in the USA within a high alloy Retort furnace fully designed, engineered and manufactured by CEC.

Retort furnaces have varying thermal process which cover a wide temperature range;  800°F (427°C) to 2200°F (1204°C). Some of the processes include:

  • Annealing
  • Carburizing
  • Normalizing
  • Brazing

Extensive Modeling & Design

Monitoring the atmosphere content and carefully controlling the radiation seen by the product require extensive modeling and design analysis. The retort can be fitted with a gas tight recirculation fan to promote convective heat transfer at the low to mid temperature ranges.

When hydrogen atmospheres are applied safety and repeatable processes are paramount. CEC has walked the miles in our customers’ shoes to make sure that we are both comfortable with the reliability of controls, retorts, instruments and seals that assure success.

CEC HEAT TREAT

The next time you get in a rocket, be sure it has a CEC heat treated or brazed engine. Call today and let us show you what we know about these carefully designed retort furnace systems.
